The Pro14 Rainbow Cup SA match between the Lions and Stormers has been cancelled after a number of positive Covid-19 tests in the Lions squad.

The game, a dead rubber, had been scheduled for Cape Town Stadium on Saturday and Stormers will be awarded four points as per competition rules.

That elevates the Stormers to second in the four-team conference but tomorrow's clash between Sharks and Bulls will decide which South African side will meet Benetton in the competition's final on 19 June - the Italians' place was confirmed after a Covid outbreak in the Ospreys camp this week.

SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux said cancelling the Lions-Stormers match would help to ensure the Lions game against the British and Lions - the opening game of the tour - can go ahead next month.

"The Emirates Lions have followed all protocols and taken all the appropriate steps," said Roux.

"While the cancellation is unfortunate, their approach ensures that the risk of cancellation of their match against the British & Irish Lions in the Castle Lager Lions Series on 3 July is well managed."
