Leinster have confirmed that Jordan Larmour is back in training but a number of players are being assessed ahead of Friday's Guinness Pro14 inter-pro derby against Ulster.
The back injured his shoulder in a game against Treviso in October and required surgery, although any call on a return to play won't be made until later in the week.
"We hope he is close enough," said backs coach Felipe Contepomi.
"We expect him to train. When they come back from injury it's always day by day. We are not going to put somebody who is not ready in the team.
"If we see he is able he’ll definitely be available for selection."
That is also true of Ciarán Frawley (hamstring), Josh Murphy (calf), Jimmy O'Brien (shoulder) and Rory O'Loughlin (shoulder).
Meanwhile, both Johnny Sexton and Scott Penny are engaging in the IRFU's return to play protocols after being withdrawn for HIAs in Saturday's defeat to Connacht at the RDS.
Elswhere, Harry Byrne has also returned to training after recovering from a back injury, while Ed Byrne, Jack Conan and Rhys Ruddock came through the game against the westerners unscathed, following injury lay-offs.
All three are expected to be available for selection for the game against Ulster in Dublin.
