Saracens are facing fresh disciplinary action after admitting that they fielded an ineligible player during the Heineken Champions Cup.

The reigning European and English champions, who have been fined £5.4million and will be relegated from the Premiership at the end of the season due to consistently outspending the salary cap, have admitted that their player Titi Lamositele's work permit had expired the day before their win over Racing 92 last month.

The 27-24 victory booked Saracens' spot in the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face Leinster at the Aviva Stadium on 4 April.

A statement from EPCR said the club had informed them that Lamositele, who came on as a 60th-minute replacement against Racing "may have been ineligible due an inadvertent administrative error on behalf of the club", and a hearing will be held in London this evening.

Munster finished third behind Saracens and Racing in Pool 4 but even if the game was to be awarded to the French side, Glasgow would be in line to replace Saracens as the eighth-ranked runners-up.
