Leinster's Garry Ringrose hailed the efforts of his younger brother Jack following a day where they both scored a hat-trick of tries for their respective sides.

The older of the two siblings powered over for three tries in Leinster's bonus-point victory over Benetton in their Champions Cup opener at the RDS yesterday, while earlier in the day, it was Jack who emerged with a hat-trick to help UCD to a 10-point win against Terenure in the All-Ireland League.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport after Leinster's big win at home, Ringrose beamed about his brother's impressive display.

"My younger brother won with UCD over Terenure so I'm delighted for him. He actually got a hat-trick as well so it's a good day for the house.

"I don't think I've got one before so I think it's the first."

Ringrose clinched his first two tries inside the opening 14 minutes of the home tie against Benetton before completing his hat-trick in the 68th minute in a man-of-the-match display.

Johnny Sexton and Ronan Kelleher chipped in with the other tries to propel Leinster to a 33-19 result and get their European campaign off to a winning start.

"To get a win and five points is ideal for us against such a good, quality side so we're delighted to start the way we did," Ringrose continued.

"There's no doubt there's things we need to improve on that we'll look back on to try and be better. To start with a win puts us in good stead."

Leinster missed out on the chance to become back-to-back Champions Cup winners last season when they were humbled by a powerful Saracens side in the final.

With the Benetton assignment now completed in the new campaign, a trip to Lyon awaits Leo Cullen's side in their next European outing where the Irish province will hope to maintain their winning form.

"We'll enjoy each other's company and appreciate getting the chance to play in the RDS and winning, which you never take for granted. But come Monday, we'll be ready to go for a massive challenge ahead."
