From the breakdown to the knock down, retired England rugby international James Haskell has signed a deal to become a mixed martial arts fighter.

The 34-year-old is to make his debut as a heavyweight in the MMA promotion Bellator next year.

The 77-cap veteran retired from rugby in May, after a successful club career spent with Wasps and Northampton, but has long been an MMA enthusiast, training with Michael 'Venom' Page and working as a TV pundit.

His 17-year rugby career came to an end last season after he struggled with ankle and toe injuries.
