The Olympic hopes of the Ireland men's 7s are alive - just - after they beat Portugal 26-10 to finish third at the Olympic Qualifier in Kazan and earn a place at next June's World Rugby Repechage.
The winners of the tournament in Colomiers earn a ticket to Tokyo 2020, while the second and third-placed teams get a final shot at making it at the repechage, where one more spot is up for grabs.
Having beaten Germany 21-0 earlier in the day to book a semi-final showdown with the French, Ireland were edged out and had to defeat Portugal in their third-place play off to keep the dream alive.
They did just that, turning over the Portuguese and staying in the hunt.
France take on England in the final with the winner of that game going to the Games and the runners-up joining Ireland in the repechage.
