South Africa lock Lood de Jager may miss the World Cup, according to reports.

The Bulls captain injured his shoulder playing against Jaguares two weeks ago and is due to undergo surgery.

The 26-year-old would face a race against time to be fit for the Japan tournament, which begins on 20 September.

The Springboks are in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Italy, Namibia and Canada.

The winners of the pool would meet the second-place team from Ireland's group in the quarter-final.
