Garry Ringrose and Kieran Marmion will miss Ireland's Six Nations clash with Italy on Sunday but Chris Farrell, Tadhg Beirne and Iain Henderson are all in the running to play in Rome.
Leinster centre Ringrose missed the win over Scotland with a hamstring injury and has not recovered in time to train this week. His provincial team-mate Rhys Ruddock misses out with a similar complaint.
Connacht scrum-half Kieran Marmion played 22 minutes for Connacht on Saturday but has not been included in the 34-man squad, while Ulster centre Will Addison is also out of contention with a stiff back.
Munster's John Ryan is preferred to Andrew Porter despite the Leinster loosehead coming off the bench in both the opening-day defeat to England and victory in Edinburgh
Chris Farrell (knee), Tadhg Beirne (knee) and Iain Henderson (thumb) were all able to train this week.
The Ulster lock is available to play if fit after a citing complaint made against him during the province's win against Ospreys was not upheld at a Pro 14 disciplinary hearing this afternoon..
Beirne and Henderson, who faces a disciplinary hearing tonight, have yet to appear in this year's Six Nations.
Pointless Italy's chances were dealt a big blow earlier today with the announcement that talismanic captain Sergio Parisse will miss the Ireland clash with concussion.
