Devin Toner is one of four players expected to come into the Ireland starting team to face New Zealand on Saturday (kick-off 7pm).
Head coach Joe Schmidt will name his matchday 23 this afternoon and it is expected that the towering lock, Dan Leavy, Garry Ringrose and Rob Kearney will be restored to the starting XV.
It is understood that Iain Henderson, the injured Sean O’Brien, Will Addison and Jordan Larmour will miss out having started the 28-17 victory over Argentina, though Henderson and Larmour are expected to be named among the replacements.
Leavy is the obvious choice to replace the luckless O’Brien, with Josh van der Flier likely to take the covering position on the bench.
The other change in the pack would see 6’10" Toner reintroduced to bring stability to a lineout that malfunctioned against the Pumas last weekend.
Fit-again Garry Ringrose has recovered from a hip injury and is set to replace Addison at outside centre, where he will renew his centre midfield with Bundee Aki.
The final change is expected to be in the 15 jersey, with Kearney to replace his provincial team-mate Larmour. The 32-year-old is a trusted lieutenant of Schmidt and has started all 20 games of Ireland’s four title-winning campaigns under the head coach.
Expected Ireland team: Rob Kearney; Keith Earls, Garry Ringrose, Bundee Aki, Jacob Stockdale; Johnny Sexton, Kieran Marmion; Cian Healy, Rory Best (captain), Tadhg Furlong, James Ryan, Devin Toner, Peter O’Mahony, Dan Leavy, CJ Stander.
Replacements: Sean Cronin, Jack McGrath, Andrew Porter, Iain Henderson, Josh van der Flier, Luke McGrath, Joey Carbery, Jordan Larmour.
