The wait for Conor Murray's return goes on as Munster confirmed he will not return to action this weekend, while Keith Earls had a scan on his hamstring this morning after pulling out of the Exeter game minutes before kick-off.

Murray - who penned a fresh contract with the province last week - has been ruled out of Saturday's Champions Cup clash with Gloucester at Thomond Park as he continues to recover from a neck problem.

Alby Mathewson will return to training tomorrow in a welcome boost to Johann van Graan's strained scrum-half options. The Kiwi had been signed on a short-term deal to cover Murray but he injured his leg in the Pro14 loss against Leinster.

Duncan Williams stepped up to the plate at Sandy Park and did well in a gritty 10-10 draw but Van Graan will be relieved to see Mathewson come back to increase his options.

Mathewson's chances of featuring against Gloucester are said to be 50-50.

Earls pulled out in the warm-up against Exeter and will hope the damage is not too extreme.

Sammy Arnold meanwhile was taken to hospital after taking a boot to the throat just eight minutes after coming off the bench and will be monitored over the next few days.
