Friday night Euro date makes things harder - Lancaster

Stuart Lancaster: "We''ll certainly have to manage the squad."

Leinster's European date under the Friday night lights means they have to balance their resources even more carefully than their provincial rivals Munster, according to senior coach Stuart Lancaster.

The reigning Champions Cup and Pro14 holders kicked off an intense period of games with a hard-earned victory at Connacht on Saturday.

On Saturday they host Johann van Graan's men at the Aviva Stadium before back-to-back Champions Cup games against Wasps [home] and Toulouse [away].

Wasps come to the RDS on Friday week, and that will impact Leinster's entire preparation from this point on.

"The challenge that maybe other teams won't have is that we play on the Friday night," said Lancaster.

"That does have an effect in that we play Saturday evening, Sunday we'll be off but then Monday, which would traditionally be a quiet day, will have to be a full training day. Tuesday we'll be off, Thursday is a quiet day and Friday is the game.

"We''ll certainly have to manage the squad but I don't want anyone thinking we're not taking this game seriously at all, because it's the entire opposite.

"It'll be a pretty strong Leinster team put out and I imagine it'll be a strong Munster team."

How they line up will be intriguing.

With nearly 45,000 tickets sold already for this Pro14 contest, in no world can it be considered anything but a big game but Leo Cullen and Van Graan will have to cut their cloth too with such a heavy fixture list.

The returns of Dan Leavy, James Ryan and Jack McGrath are a timely boost for Leinster, as was the fit-and-firing Sean O'Brien's showing off the bench in Connacht.

Rhys Ruddock and Jordan Larmour are carrying hip knocks and may miss out, while Lancaster was coy on whether Johnny Sexton will take a breather.

"Both teams will obviously have an eye on how many games they've played at this time of the year and with Europe coming around the corner as well," he added.

"I don't think anyone will look beyond Saturday.

"Munster have only strengthen from last season from what I've seen. It's a big challenge for us. They've a better squad than last year. Wherever I look in whatever position, there's an Irish international.

"They'll be confident on the back of beating Ulster in the manner they did and the style they done it. The defend differently to Connacht so we need to understand how that's going to play out. It's going to be an amazing game.

"For club rugby in Ireland to get hat many people coming this early in the season shows the importance of the game to both sets of players but also the supporters."
