Munster 24 Connacht 7

Munster began the defence of their Women’s Interprovincial Championship crown with a comfortable win over Connacht at Irish Independent Park in Cork.

The home side were in charge from the start and they opened the scoring early on, Chloe Pearse touching down after just five minutes.

Fiona Hayes followed this up with a close range finish and just before the break Niamh Briggs kicked a penalty to give Munster a 17-0 half-time lead.

Connacht started better after the interval and Shannon Touhy got in to score a try on their first visit into the red zone.

Munster regained control in a physical contest and sealed victory with a late try from replacement Eimear Considine.

Leinster beat Ulster on Friday and will visit Connacht next weekend while Ulster will host Munster.
