The first female president of a Tier 1 rugby nation says that her gender is "incidental" as she begins her two-year tenure.

Dee Bradbury became the first female president of a Tier 1 rugby nation when she landed the historic appointment with Scotland over the weekend.

Bradlbury, who currently sits as Scottish Rugby’s representative to Rugby Europe as well as the Women’s Committee, is also a police officer with a background across various sports.

She takes over the role from Rob Flockhart and while she acknowledges the scale of her achievement, Bradley stresses that she wants to focus on the task at hand and bring progression to Scotland Rugby throughout her tenure.

"As I’ve said before I’m not going to stand up like Germaine Greer," she's quoted by The Scotsman as saying. "That’s not the reason why I’m here. I’m here because I hope I’ve got the qualities to bring to the role and it’s incidental that I’m female.

"However, 33% of our staff at Scottish Rugby are females. We’ve got far more representation on Council and Board from females. I would like to think women are there for the right reasons not simply because of their gender."

Following her appointment, Bradbury also told the official Scotland Rugby website that she intends to 'work diligently with all of our stakeholders in order to continue our progress at home and on the international stage.'

"As President, it is my job to represent Scotland’s rugby clubs and ensure their voices are heard. This is something I intend to do with honesty, transparency and objectivity."
