New Zealand will follow Ireland's lead and retrospectively cap all the female players who have played for the Black Ferns in a sanctioned Test match.

A total of 161 players will be recognised over the next three years in a series of planned ceremonies.

The Kiwis, who won the World Cup on Irish soil last summer, mark the 20th anniversary of their first triumph of that tournament this year. 

Last March, 112 players who represented Ireland from 1993 to 2005, prior to the Irish Women's Rugby Football Union becoming integrated into the IRFU, received their caps. 

"The IRFU are very grateful to all those who were the pioneers of women’s rugby in Ireland and we are pleased to be in a position to recognise players who have yet to receive their cap," IRFU CEO Philip Browne said at the time.
