Extra terracing is to be in place for Connacht’s interprovincial derby with Ulster at the Sportsground on 23 December due to increased demand for tickets.

The Christmas Irish Pro 14 derbies are always highlights in the calendar, with Les Kiss’ side making the visit to Galway on Saturday for a 7.35pm kick-off.

Kieran Keane’s side will look to build on their European form after back-to-back wins over Brive as they seek just a fourth win in Conference A.

Ulster sit in joint-second in Conference B, seven points adrift of leaders Scarlets.

The Sportsground can normally hold up to 8,090 spectators, but the province says this will be increased for the Christmas fixture. The extended terracing is being installed at both the Bohermore and College Road ends of the ground.

Last season Connacht lost 23-7 in Kingspan Stadium two days before Christmas before a capacity crowd witnessed a 16-9 defeat to Munster on New Year’s Eve at a rain-swept Sportsground.
