Former Irish player Joy Neville will make history next month when she referees a game between Norway and Denmark.

Following an announcement by Rugby Europe, Neville, along with Spain's Alhambra Nievas, will become one of the first female referees to officiate at a men's international.

Nievas will take charge of Finland against Norway in the Conference 2 Division of Rugby Europe on 14 October, with Neville overseeing the clash of Norway and Denmark on 28 October.

The latter, a Grand Slam winner with Ireland, took charge of the Women's Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and England in August.

In October 2016 the Limerick native became the first female assistant referee to officiate in a European rugby match during the Bath and Bristol's Challenge Cup clash.

A month later she broke new ground again when the IRFU selected her as the first woman to referee in Ulster Bank League Division 1A game.
