Connacht's Pro12 clash with Zebre was washed away by a thundery storm as the game was suspended - and eventually abandoned - over safety concerns.

The referee called a halt to proceedings as the teams were preparing to emerge from the half-time break with Pat Lam's men trailing 22-10 at Stadio Lanfranchi.

Referee Ian Davies made the decision to abandon the match due to a prolonged spell of lightning and hailstones.

With pools of water gathering on the pitch and the incessant downpour showing no sign of easing, the decision was taken to call off the match.

Because the game was abandoned after only 40 minutes of play the result of the fixture is null and void and it will be replayed, from the start, at a later date.

Tiernan O'Halloran had cancelled out Carlo Canna's seventh-minute try after breaching the home defence, but Zebre hit back straight away through Maxime Mbanda and then winger Giovanbattista Venditti.
