Jordi Murphy expects a Springbok backlash after Ireland's historic victory in Cape Town, but is relishing the chance to humble the hosts on their own patch once again.

Joe Schmidt's men were outstanding at Newlands Stadium on Saturday as they overcame the sending-off of CJ Stander to edge past their hosts 26-20.

Leinster flanker Murphy revealed the huge belief in the camp in the build-up, and trained his focus on the secind showdown next weekend.

“It was in the back of our minds all week and in the last few months that an Irish team has never come down here and got a victory, so to get it under those circumstances, it’s been pretty exciting since the final whistle," he told RTÉ Sport.

"We’ve always got to keep one eye on next week. It’s all about recovery over the next 24, 48 hours to get ourselves back in the best possible shape.

"I think both sides have things to work on. That’s the great thing about a three-Test series. The first one is out of the way and there’s still two big ones to come. It’s exciting."

Stander will learn his fate at a discplinary hearing on Monday after receivning a red card for a high challenge on his former Junior Springbok team-mate Pat Lambie.

His departure seemed to galvanise his team-mates, as they dug in for a famous win.

"Everyone really manned up and it paid dividends," Murphy added. "The bounce from everyone, the work ethic was incredible. We did a great job to keep them out.

"There were calm heads, especially when we were down a few men. Great leadership shown by some of the lads – Jamie, Paddy Jackson in at 10, just making right decisions, running a seriously tight show.

"Obviously we knew what was on the line and we kind of started feeling like we could do it. We knew it was in our control. There was a few times were there were handling errors."
