Munster coach Anthony Foley has said he will bide his time before making a decision on his future because: "I have to make sure I’m doing the right thing for the team I love."

CEO Garrett Fizgerald confirmed during the week that Foley had been offered a one-year extension to his current contract to take him into the 2016/17 season.

He has neither accepted or declined that offer, and said that he will not rush into making the decision.

“Garrett is the most loyal man you’ll ever come across, he’s a great man to work for but I’ve got to make sure I’m doing the right thing for the team I love," Foley told RTÉ Sport.

"It's hard at times. I’m looking at where we’re going and am I the right person to do it. I question myself hard – I did it as a player and I got results because I looked at myself first and I never blamed anyone else before I looked at my contribution.

"Garrett is the most loyal man you’ll ever come across."

"That's the way I look at it. We’ve got two trips to Italy coming up. Teams have gone to Treviso and come unstuck. Zebre this year have been excellent.

"My experience tells me these are dangerous fixtures for us and we’ll make sure we’re properly prepared for it. We’ll come out the back of that and we’ll see where we’re going."

Munster produced a gutsy display at Thomond Park on Saturday to earn a 26-13 bonus-point win over Stade Francais.

Much has been made of the short-term appointment of Andy Farrell as defence coach, but Foley insisted the Englishman had already made a positive impact.

“He’s talked to me on a couple of occasions, he’s talked to a couple of the players, been in on our meetings, watched training sessions.

"He’s here until the end of March so I’m sure by the time he moves up to Dublin we'll have a good understanding of where we’re at," Foley added.
