Luke McGrath says Leinster owe their fans a Champions Cup performance after four consecutive defeats in a competition that they have won three times.

The Canada-born scrum-half could be in line for his first European start when the Blues, winners in 2009, 2011 and 2012, welcome Bath to the RDS on Saturday (5.30pm).

Mike Ford's side have won two from four in Pool 5 and need to win to retain an outside chance of progression to the next stage.

“We’re disappointed with our results up to now and we’ve just got to fix it on Saturday,” said the 22-year-old, a replacement when Bath won the away fixture, 19-16, in November

“We owe ourselves a good performance in Europe and our fans who have travelled around Europe to watch us so it’s a big one this week.

“We know Bath are coming here with a sniff to get out of the group if they win the last two games so it’s going to be very competitive.

“We watched them yesterday in Toulon and they possibly could have won that game. They’ve a brilliant coach and great squad so it’s going to be a tough battle.

“There is pressure but it’s part of the game. You’ve just got to enjoy that pressure and those nerves and just get out there and have a go.”

Kurt McQuilken, Leinster’s defence coach, hinted that some of the younger squad members may be given a chance.

The ex-Ireland centre said: “During the World Cup, these guys have cut their teeth and they’ve done really well for us, they’re all champing at the bit, they want to take the next step up.

“So in that respect we’re in a pretty good place with these sort of boys coming through our system. It’s exciting times and it will be an interesting team selection at the end of the week.

“We’re expecting a pretty physical outfit in Bath, up front, like at scrummage time they’re pretty handy.

“They’ve got a lot of pace out wide and a very good pivot in [George] Ford so we’re going to have our work cut out but it’s something we’re looking forward to and relishing.”

McQuilken also gave an update on the injury list in the wake of their Pro12 win against Ospreys, which sees them trail leaders Scarlets by a point in the table.

He said: "Jamie [Heaslip] took a bang on the head on the weekend, so he's going to follow the return to play protocols. Luke [Fitzgerald] took a stinger on the shoulder, so we're just going to assess him over the week and see how things go there."

"Isaac Boss, hopefully we'll have him back training this week after the hamstring injury. Mike Ross is still a couple of weeks away with his hamstring issue.

"Cian Healy has had an elective procedure on his knee, so he'll be a couple of weeks off also.

"Of the long-term guys - Mick Kearney, Hayden Triggs and Jack Conan - they're progressing well and we hope to have them back later down the line."
