Dave O’Callaghan and Robin Copeland have penned fresh two-year deals with Munster to keep them at Thomond Park until 2018, while Ireland U20 star Rory Scannell has signed a senior contract.

Head coach Anthony Foley talked up the value of the trio as the province received a welcome boost ahead of their Pro12 trip to Ulster this Saturday.

"It is great to have Robin, Dave and Rory commit to the province,” he said.

“With Robin and Dave we are maintaining the services of two hugely physical players that each bring different skill-sets to our overall game.

"Both players have proven their versatility over the years in playing across the back row and at lock so we are delighted to have players of their calibre in the squad.

Copeland, 28, joined Munster at the start of the 2014/15 season from Cardiff Blues, while O'Callaghan, a product of the Academy, has made 52 appearances for the province after making his Pro12 debut against Ospreys in Thomond Park back in 2011.

He's currently recovering from an adductor injury he sustained in the Champions Cup defeat to Leicester and is expected to be out for about five weeks.

Rory Scannell, 22, is the younger brother of hooker Niall - they became the first brothers to start a league game for the province when taking on Newport Gwent Dragons in Rodney Parade in December.
