Luke Fitzgerald looks set to miss Ireland’s build-up to the World Cup after undergoing shoulder surgery at the weekend.

Fitzgerald will miss Leinster’s remaining matches this weekend and the problem could see him out for up to three months, but he should recover in time for the tournament.

Leinster assistant coach Leo Cullen said yesterday: "Luke Fitzgerald has had an issue with his shoulder and that is being repaired as well.

"Basically, it's a repair to his labrum, he suffered a bit of damage there. He only got it done at the weekend so it's a bit early to say.

"We'll find out more as the week goes on in terms of how long it might be. He will certainly be out for the next two weeks. I don't think it's a World Cup issue."

Meanwhile, Rhys Ruddock returned to the training pitch this week as he steps up his recovery but is not in consideration for either of Leinster's two games over the next two weekends.
