Leinster's Jordi Murphy is “very hungry” for European success with the three-time European champions but is taking nothing for granted on Saturday against Bath in the Champions Cup quarter-final at the Aviva Stadium.

Although the European Rugby Champions Cup competition is a new one, whoever wins it is still the best team in Europe.

“I’ve only come into the squad in the last two or three years and we haven’t managed to win this elite competition while I’ve been here. I’m definitely very hungry to do it,” the 23-year-old flanker told RTÉ Sport.

“Even for the boys that have done it before it is one of those things that once you win, you want it again, you want that feeling again.

“So there’s definitely that buzz amongst us and hunger to get major silverware back into the club.”

Murphy featured in all five of Ireland's Six Nations games, playing the full 80 minutes against Italy and England, which climaxed with the nail-biting last-day title success in Edinburgh.

Given the international triumphs of recent weeks, Murphy said there has been an extra level confidence in the Leinster camp with the return of a host of internationals to the fold.

“We’d have to take confidence from that success and some of the players have been playing fantastically,” said Murphy.

“None more so than Sean O’Brien who scored two tries on the last weekend [against Scotland] and that superb tackle from Jamie Heaslip to deny Stuart Hogg. That’s to name just a few who’ve come back into us this week.

“So I think we’re going to have to take confidence from that, and those players will bring their confidence in which they’ve built up over the last few weeks.”

As for their English Premiership opposition Bath, Murphy believes Leinster can match any team having showed their mettle after recovering from a poor start in the group stages to securing a home quarter-final tie.

However, the former Blackrock man warned: “We know we can’t look further than this weekend because it is a knockout tournament.

“Bath are a team in very good form and played some really good rugby this year. So we’re not taking them lightly at all.”
