Connacht's Bundee Aki will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after it was confirmed that he will need surgery on an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old centre sustained the injury in Connacht's 16-13 Pro12 defeat to Edinburgh and saw a specialist today to ascertain whether surgery was necessary.

Following that consultation and an MRI examination, it was confirmed that Aki sustained a ruptured syndesmosis, which involves damages to ligaments above the ankle joint. He will undergo an operation on the ankle next week, and miss eight to 10 weeks, according to a Connacht statement.
