Leinster today confirmed they will not be appealing the three-week suspension handed down to Jack McGrath by the Guinness PRO12 Disciplinary Committee.

McGrath was suspended for stamping on Ulster’s Rory Best during his side’s recent 24-11 PRO12 victory at the RDS.

An independent disciplinary committee upheld the citing complaint, taking the view that McGrath’s breach of the rules warranted a five-week entry-point suspension, but showed leniency due to the 25-year-old’s previously unblemished record and conduct at the hearing.

A Leinster statement read: “After considering all the options and taken considerable advice, including legal, Leinster Rugby have this afternoon confirmed that they will not be appealing the decision by the Guinness PRO12 Disciplinary Committee to suspend Jack McGrath for three weeks, effectively ruling him out of the two Champions Cup, Pool 2 games this weekend and next.

“The matter is now at an end and Leinster Rugby will be making no further comment in relation to this matter. “

McGrath’s suspension runs to 25 January, meaning he will be unavailable for selection for the European Rugby Champions Cup pool encounters against  Castres and Wasps.

He will not miss any of Ireland's Six Nations campaign, however, with the defending champions' first game away to Italy on 7 February.
