Connacht centre Bundee Aki is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on his ankle having injured the joint in the Westerners defeat to Edinburgh in the Pro12.

The 24-year-old New Zealander injured the ankle in the 76th minute of 16-13 home defeat and the extent of the problem will be assessed following the scan and further examination.

With Connacht hosting Exeter Chiefs in the Challenge Cup this Sunday, the injury to Aki is a major concern.

In better news for head coach Pat Lam, versatile back Craig Ronaldson has completed the return-to-play protocols for concussion and has been cleared for full training. After missing out against Edinburgh, the 24-year-old is expected to be available for selection this week.

The Irish province currently lie second in Pool 2 of the Challenge Cup, two points behind pool toppers Exeter. A victory over the English club would put Lam's side top of the table with just one pool match remaining, away to La Rochelle.
