Leinster’s Jack McGrath has been suspended for three weeks for stamping on Ulster’s Rory Best during his side’s 24-11 Pro12 victory at the RDS on Saturday.
The Leinster prop appeared before an independent disciplinary committee today, which found that the player had committed an act of foul play and upheld the citing complaint.
The committee took the view that McGrath’s breach of the rules warranted a five-week entry-point suspension, but showed leniency due to the 25-year-old’s previously unblemished record and conduct at the hearing.
McGrath’s suspension runs to 25 January, meaning he will be unavailable for selection in the upcoming matches against Cardiff in the Pro12, and the European Rugby Champions Cup pool encounters against Castres and Wasps.
He will not miss any of Ireland's Six Nations campaign however, with the defending champions' first game away to Italy on 7 February.
