Exeter Chiefs 33-13 Connacht

Connacht conceded five tries en route to a 33-13 defeat away to Exeter Chiefs in the European Challenge Cup today.

The Westerners had impressed with a 48-12 victory over La Rochelle last week but this defeat in the English West Country knocked them off the top of Pool Two.

Two penalties from Craig Donaldson were all Connacht could put on the scoreboard in a poor first half showing, with Pat Lam's side 19-6 down at half time courtesy of Exeter tries from Will Chudley, Henry Slade and Damian Welch.

The home side continued to dominate in the second half and stretched their lead to 33-6 as Dave Ewers and Ben White crossed the whitewash.

Despite an impending defeat Connacht continued to push and earned a consolation try through Fionn Carr, who made a break from the half-way line to cross over and Ronaldson converted.

Lam’s charges had endured an earlier disappointment when Wille Falloon crossed the line after some slick passing only to have the score disallowed.

Exeter secured their bonus point as early as the 46th minute when Ewers finished off from a break down the right, before White landed the fifth try from a recycled penalty.
