Wasps are to complete their move to the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, from  Adams Park in High Wycombe in early December, meaning Leinster will face the English side at the venue in their Champions Cup clash in January.

The two-time European champions announced their acquisition of a 50% interest in the stadium today and are now joint owners with Coventry City Council.

For the moment Wasps will continue to play in High Wycombe but will make the switch to Coventry in time for either their clash with Castes on the weekend of 5 December, or their meeting with London Irish on 21 December.

They will therefore be in situ for their Champions Cup round six clash with Leinster on the weekend of 23 January.

The club currently lie ninth in the Premiership after five games, with just two wins to their account.

The move away from London has been met with hostility by Wasps' supporters who have discussed protests over the decision, which will see them needing to make a 264km round trip to see their side play.

Wasps, who originally played at Finchley Road in North London, have held a ground share with Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park since 2002, but have been searching for another solution for the past 11 years.

Their association with the Ricoh Arena goes back to 2007 when they hosted Munster at the ground as they began their defence of the European Cup.

The Rugby Football Union have previously approved the ground for use as a Premiership venue; however, they have not approved any academy changes to Wasps' structure.

At present Wasps' move to the Midlands is for matches only and their academy system will remain in place in region of Oxfordshire, Middlesex and Buckinghamshire .

The academy system structures are in place as part of an RFU heads of agreement and one would imagine Wasps will seek to address their academy catchment area when the current agreement expiries in 18 months; this is no doubt a change that would be opposed by the three other major Midlands clubs - Northampton, Leicester and Worcester; most especially Worcester whose academy region includes Coventry.
