Munster forward James Coughlan is to leave the province at the end of June.

The 33-year-old was contracted to the double European champions until June 2015 but has requested an early release to move abroad.

“This was a difficult decision for me to make,” said Coughlan, who played 139 times for Munster since making his debut as a 26-year-old in 2006.

“I was presented with an opportunity that I had to take for myself and my young family as we plan for our future.

“Playing for Munster has been a dream come through. I never thought I would have achieved what I have and the whole experience has been life-changing," added Coughlan, who is likely to move abroad with a switch to a French club being mentioned.
