Ireland coach Declan Kidney said the trick to beating Argentina was not to give them a foothold in the game.
The Pumas exerted some early pressure and forced a penalty from which out-half Nicolas Sanchez hit the post.
Kidney told RTÉ Sport that it was small margins like this that make a difference.
“We knew that if we got in the trenches with them that they would have a field day with us. We knew we had to keep them moving around the park and that is what we did,” he said.
"We stayed away from a lot of the arm wrestles that have been apparent in previous Ireland against Argentina matches and the scores went our way today.
"It is small margins. We kicked off on the full, they got a penalty, hit the post and it came back into play. On another day you‘re three points down and all of a sudden that gives them contact.”

Ireland led 24-9 at half-time but the game was over as a contest when Tommy Bowe and Jonathan Sexton scored tries within seven minutes of the restart.
However, Ireland took their foot off the pedal and Bowe’s second try on 74 minutes was overshadowed by late tries from Tomas Leonardi and Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe for the visitors.
Kidney indicated that the late lapse was discussed in the dressing room.
He said: “We’ve never said what is said behind closed doors. The privacy of the dressing room still has to be worked on but we’ll enjoy tonight, it would be churlish not too.
“We have loads to work on. It will be a completely different kettle of fish when we get to Cardiff in early February but today is a good day so why not enjoy it.”
Ireland's autumn series finished with two wins from three games and Kidney was also keen to praise the backroom staff for the impressive 46-24 win.
“It was a lot of things coming together. It was a lot of good coaching work by what is a good coaching team. Les Kiss, Gert Small, Mark Tainton, Anthony Foley and Greg Feek have done an excellent job," he said.
“It is amazing when things come together that all of a sudden you have totally different picture than some of the results we have had this year. We’ve been working towards that and today has just been one of the good days."
