Old Belvedere left it late to secure victory over Clontarf in a thrilling finish to the Ulster Bank League 1 semi-final at Anglesea Road on Saturday.
Clontarf appeared to have matters in hand when Daragh O’Shea’s last minute penalty put his side three points clear, but the real drama was still to come.
Belvedere, who had been slow to get going and, at one stage, trailed Clontarf on a scoreline of 12-0, showed tremendous fighting spirit to steal victory in injury time.
With Clontarf three points up and seemingly destined for success, Eddie Devitt chipped the ball over the top and when it dropped some five metres out, Daniel Riordan controlled it skillfully with his foot before Devitt gathered it up and touched it down to give Belvedere a dramatic two-point victory.
