South Africa coach Peter De Villiers has demanded more from his players as they look to build on Saturday's defeat of Italy when they meet the Azzurri again in East London at the weekend.
The Springboks were lethargic in Witbank despite notching a 29-13 success and failed to hit the heights set the previous week against France.
De Villiers is confident their preparation for the Tri Nations remains on track but is hoping for an improved display against Nick Mallett's men.
‘We allowed silly mistakes to creep into our game last week. This was due to a lack of concentration and we have to rectify that,’ he said.
‘This week is the last of four weeks that we have had to prepare and at this stage I am 75% sure on who will go on the Tri Nations tour.
‘This is the last piece of the puzzle, which we hope will fall into place for us to be ready for the Tri Nations.
'We have had the best of both worlds as we have been given opportunities to experiment and manage the players ahead of the Tri Nations.’
De Villiers has used the matches against France and Italy to blood some new players and has been pleasantly surprised with their performances.
‘What has been most encouraging is how new players have slotted in with very little disruption to our game.’ he added.
‘There are youngsters in the team who have been rewarded for their performances in the Super 14 and they have rewarded their selection with good play for the team.
‘They have made the most of their opportunities and will make things tough for players coming back into the team.
‘In this team no-one's place is guaranteed and players who have been out will have to work their way back.’
De Villiers will rest vice-captain Victor Matfield this weekend but captain John Smit and lock Andries Bekker are back from injury, while Wynand Olivier and Jaque Fourie (both centres) and Danie Rossouw (lock) are back after a week's break.
Schalk Burger is also fit for selection after withdrawing from the first Test against Italy with an ankle strain.
‘Victor has played a lot of rugby so far this season and needs a break after we had to call him into the team at short notice for the Welsh Test,’ said De Villiers.
‘We have three world class locks in the squad and two youngsters coming in which is a good space to be in. Our plans to manage the players properly have worked well.’
