As it happened: New Zealand 66-28 Ireland

It was too easy for the All-Blacks
It was too easy for the All-Blacks

FULL TIME

81mins: Ireland penalty and they keep the ball in hand in search of another try - fair play, but the move breaks down and the ref blows for full time. Desperate first half for Ireland, they came back strong in the second but you can't beat New Zealand with 14 men.

80mins: Into the last minute now and I'm as relieved as the Irish players look. They showed great heart and no little skill during the second half and are finishing the game on the attack.

78mins: TRY Disappointing defence by Ireland as Whitelock shrugs off three or four Irish tackles for a record points total for NZ against Ireland.

76mins: TRY Brilliant by Ireland. Ireland penalty leads to Buckley and Cronin bashing the Kiwi defence, O'Leary releases it out the back line and D'Arcy finds a chink in the NZ defence to go over - Sexton converts.

75mins: Good kick by Sexton after more good hands and running rugby from Ireland. NZ fumble so it's Irish line out close to the All Black line...

72mins: Trimble almost finds the corner after another good Irish attack but is denied by the video ref - close call but right decision.

69mins: I'm going to try and be positive now folks. The Irish scrum is doing well and Buckley can't stop doing the right thing, Trimble too. Sexton is now on and gaining valuable experience ahead of the World Cup - and they've not lost heart ...

66mins: TRY Every time I turn my back for a minute I miss a try - Carter has yet to miss a kick all day - class act.

Lots of emails coming in now - can't get to you all but hope you're not too disappointed in the Czech Republic, Kildare, London, Dublin and Shannon. Hello to Marie in Arklow too, Nial's given up on the rugby and gone to the car boot sale in Inch to get a nice jacket for dinner this evening...

64mins: Ireland running at the NZ defence once more, showing good hands all around - none more so than Buckley who off loads brilliantly again.

61mins: TRY Ireland again! O'Leary takes from the ruck and goes into contact close to the NZ line - the ball is lost momentarily but Bowe intercepts and goes over for a real poachers try. O'Gara adds the extras.

60mins: Fair play to Ireland who haven't given up completely and attack once more, Wallace and Jennings leading the charge...

57mins: TRY O'Driscoll, almost forgotton about him, finds space and gives to Buckley who carries well once more and off loads to O'Driscoll who goes over for a very good Irish try. O'Gara converts.

56mins: Wallace, Healy, Tuohy and D'Arcy all carry forward but NZ hold firm.

55mins: Cronin finds O'Callaghan and Ireland attack...

53mins: Ireland try to get their game going again and O'Gara finds good touch - line out in the Kiwi 22 - The home side secure the ball but NZ concede a penalty for crossing - Ireland go for the line out on the NZ line...

50mins: TRY Boric breaks and finds Piri Weepu who in turn finds Whitelock for another Kiwi try - this is just embarassing now.

47mins: Oh yeah, Carter converts, from now on just presume he converts because I can't type fast enough for this type of scoring, if he doesn't I'll say so...

47mins: TRY One simple error by Ireland, sloppy pass from O'Leary, and NZ collect and break downfield to score again through Smith - it's a hard knock life...

46mins: Ireland showing good hands and going through the phases now...

45mins: Buckley and Trimble combine and make good ground as Ireland recycle and find good field position.

43mins: Ireland's scrum survives another test and O'Gara finds good touch but NZ take quick throw in and launch yet another attack - Kearney recovers the ball and makes a good break - Ireland showing some pride now at least.

41mins: The second half begins with NZ attacking - Brendan in New York points out that it's not all bad as Buckley, Tuohy and Muldoon are doing well, he's right too but it's scant consolation.

Alan O'Sullivan in Boston simply says 'wow', while Colin Noonan in Kildare says 'bring back Alan Quinlan'. I'm afraid, but bringing back Ward, Ringland, Fitzgerald, Campbell or anyone else wouldn't matter today...

HALF TIME (at last) Time to re-group and try and recover some pride in the second half.

Hello and good bye to Alan Noonan who logged on but quickly logged off in Seattle - he says 'ouch'. Is anyone staying around for this?

35mins: TRY again - But this time it's Ireland!!! Dan Tuohy, who just came on, makes a great pick up and breaks the NZ defence for a consolation try close to half time - O'Gara converts.

33mins: TRY Carter breaks the Irish line brilliantly, finds Ciaran Reid who in turn finds Brad Thorn who finished it off - Mick O'Driscoll goes off injured now... guess who converts?

31mins: TRY again - sorry I missed that one checking the emails, I just saw a streak of black cutting through a haze of green - John Muldoon goes off with an injured shoulder and Shane Jennings comes on - and need I say it but Carter converts.

Hello to James Hatch in Japan - glad you're tuning in, and to Niall, Nina and Ringo in Arklow, although they've gone back to bed - I wish I could...

28mins: TRY awarded - I hope you like the delay I added... but this isn't funny. Carter converts of course...

28mins: The ball ends up with Ben Franks who goes over from close in - it's off to the video ref...

27mins: It's a siege at the minute with Carter, Rokocoko and Israel Dagg running at the 13 Irish men.

24mins: Ireland now starting to get their backs in play but go across field and fail to get anywhere - this team looks beaten already... They lose posession and NZ kick through - O'Gara is sin-binned for obstruction - can this get any worse?

21mins: TRY: NZ launch an attack immediately and Rokocoko breaks the line - the ball makes its way across the field and NZ go over again with Ben Franks bashing his way through - Carter converts from a tight angle - it's going to be a long tough game people.

20mins: 14-man Ireland get a let-off as NZ concede a penalty - and O'Gara misses touch again - inexcusable - he's not doing it at the moment Imelda.

18mins: NZ mount another attack - how will the Irish scrum cope now? Ireland lose their own line out and NZ break through the first line of Irish defence - desperate defence now from Ireland.

16mins: Heaslip is the culprit and he's been sent off. He looks to have kneed a Kiwi in the head in frustration as he's in his way - no excuse though, awful looking foul and right in front of the ref.

16mins: Ireland showing great patience and keep the pressure on, D'Arcy collects and shimmies his way through the NZ defence and almost reaches the line but doesn't make it and a scuffle breaks out...

15mins: Ireland now go through the phases and are on the NZ line after good breaks from Buckley and Trimble.

13mins: TRY: Disaster, NZ turn over ball as Ireland attack and Conrad Smith kicks through, Kearney fails to secure the ball on the Irish line and Smith punishes his error with an easy touch down. To say Ireland have yet to settle would be an understatement... Carter converts.

Hello to Imelda Sheehan in San Fran trying to stay awake - it's 12.30am over there, a big O'Gara fan, while Conor sees the bright side of Hayes not playing, he thinks he needs a break! Back to the match...

7mins: And Carter doesn't miss from there, NZ go three up.

6mins: Now Ireland concede the penalty in front of their own posts for offside...

4mins: Ireland's scrum looks under pressure but Heaslip collects and NZ give away a penalty but O'Gara fails to find touch and NZ attack again.

3mins: NZ now going through the phases - it's looking ominous as they approach the Ireland 22. Knock-on hands the scrum to Ireland though.

2min: Ireland have to defend now with a line-out in their own 22, clean line-out ball from Sean Cronin and Ireland clear.

1min: O'Gara gets the game underway, the All-Blacks secure the ball and Carter clears as far as Kearney who attempts a drop goal from the half way line but hits it wide.

8.34am: Richie McCaw leads his team through the Haka... O'Gara and co. look at ease - now the rugby can begin.

8.28am: The teams are out on the pitch and the rain looks to have ceased, the crowd give both teams a warm welcome and there's not a vuvuzela to be heard. Now listening to Ireland's call...

8.08am: Tony Buckley comes in for Hayes, which isn't a bad thing - he's powerful and dynamic and the experience will do him good also. If you've any thoughts on this, or anything else rugby related email us at sportonline@rte.ie.

8.05am: Big blow for Ireland with the news that John Hayes has withdrawn from the squad due to illness. It's wet and windy and looks fairly miserable to be honest in New Plymouth, bright and sunny in Dublin...

7.55am: Good morning folks, Johnny here and I'll be talking you through the action in New Zealand. I'm not so sure we have much of a chance, but I'm not great in the mornings and had to get up earlier than normal for this so don't mind me - Brendan Cole is probably more dependable if it's expert opinion you're after.
