Australian Rugby World Cup winning captain John Eales has been appointed to the board of the Australian Rugby Union.
Second row Eales, 39, played 86 Tests for the Wallabies and led them to World Cup glory in 1999. He was elected unopposed at the ARU's annual general meeting.
Eales fills the vacancy left by the retirement from the board of former Australian Defence Force chief, General Peter Cosgrove.
Since his retirement in 2001, Eales has been involved in coaching, leadership consultancy and sports marketing.
