Frank Murphy’s second try of the night increased Connacht’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup, securing a crucial bonus point in their victory over Italian side Rovigo.
Connacht were quickly out of the blocks, scoring their first try before a full minute had elapsed, when hooker Sean Cronin completed a move started by Andrew Farley’s burst of speed to charge down a Rovigo clearance.
It was Ray Ofisa’s turn to shine 20 minutes later, when he finished off a move that he had begun himself, touching down to extend Connacht’s lead.
Murphy scored his first try early in the second half, before dramatically sealing the win and the bonus point with only three minutes remaining.
Two tries from New Zealand’s Luke Mahoney were not enough for the home side, who will be keen to exact revenge when they visit the Sportsground next Friday.
