Eddie O’Sullivan’s World Cup plans are back on track after it was confirmed that Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll did not sustain a fracture to his cheekbone as had been initially reported.
A statement from the IRFU, released this morning, has stated that the skipper sustained a fracture to his sinus and a deep laceration under his right eye.
This injury will keep the Leinster centre out for three to four weeks but O’Driscoll will not have to undergo surgery, which might have kept him out of the upcoming tournament in France.
As a result, the injury will rule O'Driscoll out of the warm-up game against Italy next week and the first Rugby World Cup Pool game against Namibia.
