Ulster have alerted European rugby authorities to an 'off-the-field incident' involving Toulouse's Irish lock Trevor Brennan.

The province plan to inform Heineken Cup organisers European Rugby Cup (ERC) of what they allege was an altercation involving Brennan and an Ulster fan during yesterday's pool match in France.

A statement on the club's official website read: 'Ulster Rugby has made the organisers of the Heineken Cup, the ERC, aware of an off-the-field incident involving the Toulouse player Trevor Brennan.

'During the match between Toulouse and Ulster in Toulouse on Sunday, 21 January, Brennan left the playing enclosure and physically assaulted a member of the Ulster travelling support.

'Ulster Rugby will be submitting a formal report to assist ERC in their investigation of this serious matter.

'Brennan was also involved in an incident on the field of play which Ulster Rugby will be reviewing.'

Tournament organisers European Rugby Cup Limited have confirmed they have opened an investigation into the off-field incident at Stade Ernest Wallon.

ERC disciplinary officer Roger O'Connor has contacted Toulouse and Ulster requesting full details, while also asking for reports from match officials and broadcasters at the game.

A decision on any misconduct complaints against players or the clubs involved will be made following O'Connor's investigation.
