A record Six Nations Irish television audience watched Brian O'Driscoll lead Ireland to victory

Ireland's Six Nations victory over England on Saturday attracted the highest ever Irish television audience for the tournament.

643,000* people tuned in to RTÉ TWO for the duration of the game with 821,000* viewers tuning in for the dramatic climax which saw Ireland beat England at Twickenham to clinch the Triple Crown. 

Glen Killane, RTÉ Head of TV Sport, said: "We're delighted that so many viewers tuned in for this thrilling match and for RTÉ's coverage of the entire tournament. Bringing the big competitions to the widest possible audience is one of the things we strive to deliver, and this year's RBS Six Nations attracted the biggest ever audiences for the tournament on Irish television."

The RBS Six Nations tournament will be live and free-to-air on RTÉ Television until at least 2009.
