All the reports from today's five games in the AIB Cup first round.
BELFAST HARLEQUINS 50 SUTTONIANS 12
Suttonians proved no match for top flight regulars Belfast Harlequins at Deramore Park as they scored an easy 50-12 win in the AIB Cup first round.
The hosts ran in eight tries against Suttonians, who are perched in mid-table in Division Three. Andy Ward's side were always on top, and three tries from wingers Johnny Lowe (2) and Paul McKenzie inside the opening 17 minutes had them 17-0 in front.
Suttonians hit back with a try from hooker Anthony Ronan before the break, but the deficit was still 24-5.
Andy Ward's men ran in a further four tries in the second half – replacement Mike McKeever, full-back Mark Kettyle and hooker Stuart Philpott all got off the mark with Lowe bagging his hat-trick late on. Joe McDonagh scored the Dubliners' second try with Paddy Maguire converting.
CLONTARF 30 DUNGANNON 20
Dungannon coughed up a 20-point lead against fellow Division One outfit Clontarf to go down 30-20 in the AIB Cup first round at Castle Avenue.
Jeremy Davidson's young Dungannon side got off to the ideal start as speedy backs Neil Patterson and Dale Black scorched over for early tries. Former Ireland Under-21 captain Gareth Steenson booted two conversions and a brace of penalties for a 20-0 lead, midway through the first half.
However, prop Richard Sweeney nabbed a try reply for Clontarf before the break and second half touchdowns from Peter Woods, Derek Keane - top scorer in Division One currently with five tries, and Mark Woods saw the north Dubliners steal the win.
DE LA SALLE PALMERSTON 13 BUCCANEERS 50
Full-back Tommy Cregan grabbed a pre-Christmas bounty of point as Buccaneers ran riot for a 50-13 AIB Cup first round success against DLSP.
The Kilternan host quaked in the second half as Cregan ran in for three tries and topped his contribution off with five conversions for 25-point haul.
The on-song Pirates scored eight tries in all to ease through to February's Cup quarter-finals.
Conor Hartigan, Conor O'Loughlin - the some-time Connacht scrum-half, and Paddy
O'Sullivan all scored in the first half as Buccanneers led 19-6 at the break. DLSP’s points came from two Phil de Barra penalties.
Cregan then got motoring on the try-count in the second half with O'Loughlin and Conor Lavelle also crossing the whitewash in the landslide win. Centre Damien McCabe managed a consolation try for DLSP, which he converted himself.
DOLPHIN 7 GARRYOWEN 33
Garryowen, unbeaten in six AIB League Division One games this winter, had little trouble in seeing off Dolphin 33-7 at Musgrave Park.
Tries from Cillian O'Boyle (2), Munster number 8 John O'Sullivan, Anthony Kavanagh and Kevin Hartigan ensured an easy passage through to the AIB Cup's last-eight for the Limerick men.
The result looked done and dusted with the visitors 26-0 in front at half-time.
Centre Aidan O'Shea scored Dolphin's sole try in the second half. Dolphin also lost their inspirational captain James Coughlan to a yellow card midway through the second half.
TERENURE COLLEGE 19 MALONE 12
Division Two leaders Terenure College fought off a sticky Malone side for a 19-12 AIB Cup first round win at Lakelands.
Malone centre John Anderson intercepted a ball in midfield to cross for the opening try, which went unconverted, after 26 minutes. Terenure, though, hit back right on the cusp of half-time when former Leinster and Ireland Under-21 back row Alex Dunlop crossed in the right corner.
The home side then went in front in the first minute of the second half through a penalty from fly-half Conor Gildea. Anderson replied with his second try, converted by Philip Coulter, on 50 minutes for a 12-8 lead but 'Nure owned the final quarter.
A try from Mark Mahony was added to Gildea's second penalty and an opportunist drop goal from winger Brian Flanagan on 67 minutes.
