France coach Bernard Laporte has been dealt a double injury blow ahead of his side's autumn internationals.

Inside centre Benoit Baby, who scored a try on his international debut against Ireland in March, is out for the season after rupturing knee ligaments.

While fly-half Frederic Michalak will be out of action for six weeks after spraining his right ankle for the third time in 18 months.

Uncapped Bourgoin fly-half Benjamin Boyet and Stade Francais playmaker David Skrela, 1 cap, could be called up for the November internationals against Australia, Canada, Tonga and South Africa.

Laporte had not ruled out recalling Saracens star Thomas Castaignede. "But, first, we can't be entirely sure Michalak will not be ready. He's got eight weeks, it's a bit close but he could be back."

"Otherwise it's an opportunity for others to make a claim for a place in the Test side with the 2007 World Cup on the horizon. And we cannot forget Castaignede."
