Lions coach Clive Woodward tonight named Jonny Wilkinson in his squad for this summer's tour of New Zealand.

England captain Wilkinson becomes the tour party's 45th player after confirming his fitness with three consecutive appearances for Newcastle after recovering from a knee injury.

Wilkinson has not played international rugby since the victorious World Cup final in November 2003 due to a catalogue of injury problems, but Woodward left the Lions selection door open subject to him proving his fitness.

Wilkinson had also been named in England's squad for the Churchill Cup in Canada next month, but he will now head for Auckland with the Lions on May 25 instead.
