Belvedere College bagged their first Leinster Schools Senior Cup crown since 1972 today at Lansdowne Road, fending off a strong second half comeback from favourites Blackrock on a scoreline of 16-10.
A 13th-minute try from Peter Woods – after a superb kick through from centre Eoin O’Malley – paved the way for a 5-0 lead before flanker Robert Fitzgerald doubled Belvedere's with a charge down try.
'Rock - inspired by captain Darren O'Reilly - battled back into contention with centre Luke Fitzgerald - having earlier missed a penalty chance - slotting a crucial three points three minutes before the break.
The Northsiders stretched their lead to 16-3 however by the 75th-minute after fly-half Ian Keatley drilled over a second half penalty and late drop goal.
O'Reilly did counter late for the light blue hoops, stretching over for Fitzgerald to convert but the damage was already done.
