England's World Cup winning fly-half Jonny Wilkinson made a stunning return to club rugby today.
After an 11-week absence he scored a last minute try and converted it to give Newcastle a 30-29 win over Premiership rivals Sale.
The 25-year-old scored 20 points in total as he edged his rival for the England fly-half spot Charlie Hodgson, who scored 19 points for Sale.
Newcastle went into injury time of a tense game six points behind Sale before Wilkinson's late score.
Wilkinson had been absent for so long because of a bicep injury, although he had been fit for the last three weeks but Newcastle hadn't wanted to rush him back.
