Ulster stopped the rot of four successive Celtic League defeats with victory over the Borders last week and they’ll be keen to build on that win against Cardiff at Ravenhill.

The Belfast venue hasn’t exactly been a fortress for Ulster this year but McCall is keen to change this on Friday night.

"Losing at home has been very unusual for us because last year we couldn't win on the road and we were unbeatable at home," says McCall.

"Our performances at home have been very disappointing and we're desperate to show our fans what we're capable of."

Cardiff, however, will be a tough challenge especially since they’ll be hell-bent on revenge for their Heineken Cup defeat against the province in October.

They currently lie in sixth position in the table and a win would certainly put them right up there with the chasing pack.

Surprisingly, Kiwi Campbell Feather has been chosen as Ulster captain for the game.  The number eight only joined the province in the summer from Glasgow but he appears to have made quite an impression on McCall who said: "Campbell is a born leader and he has the respect of the whole squad."

McCall's starting XV shows three changes of personnel and two positional changes from that which defeated The Borders last weekend.

In the backs, Scott Young comes into the side on the right wing, with Andrew Maxwell switching to the left to cover the injured Tyrone Howe (knee).

Up front, Ronan McCormack comes in for Simon Best, who is on Ireland duty. The injuries to back row players Neil McMillan, Andy Ward and Roger Wilson have seen Matt McCullough switch to the flank, with Gary Longwell taking his place in the second row.

Ulster team: Bryn Cunningham, Scott Young, Jonny Bell, Paul Steinmetz, Andrew Maxwell, Adam Larkin,  Kieran Campbell, Ronan McCormack, Paul Shields, Rod Moore, Gary Longwell, Rowan Frost, Matt McCullough, Neil Best, Campbell Feather (Captain). Replacements: Nigel Brady, Bryan Young, Gary Brown, Gavin Pfister, Neil Doak, Seamus Mallon, Andrew Trimble.
