Williams forced into naming two new caps

Scotland coach Matt Williams named uncapped Borders forward duo Scott McLeod and Scott Gray in his starting team for Saturday's match against Australia at Murrayfield.

McLeod will start at lock, with Gray on the flank, while there is a recall for another Borders man, fullback Stuart Moffat, after 2 years out of the side.

MacLeod owes his selection to the unavailability of Stuart Grimes, Jason White and Iain Fullarton, all of whose clubs have refused to release players. The clubs see the clash as an international match outside the agreed IRB window for tests.

Williams has slammed the Zurich Premiership teams for refusing to release his players and said: "I think it is a very dangerous precedent that the English clubs can be setting the agenda for an international game."

"On a rugby front I just cannot conceive them doing it. In all my years when I was coaching you would want your players to play international rugby."

"Stuart Grimes and Jason White will play each other tomorrow night at Newcastle and be denied a cap. And as a rugby man and as a coach I just wouldn't do that. I would always make the players available," he added.
