Gordon D'Arcy could make his first appearance of the season in Leinster's Celtic League game with Edinburgh Rugby at Donnybrook on Sunday.
D'Arcy, who has been shortlisted for the IRB Player of the Year awards, has been named as a replacement for the game.
Leinster's newest recruit, Dave Holwell, makes his debut as coach Declan Kidney continues to search for the right balance in his backline. Kidney has a wealth of resources at his disposal in that particular area and right now he must be the envy of most coaches in Europe.
This time out, Felipe Contepomi and Brian O'Driscoll are paired in the centre while Shane Horgan, Gary Brown and Girvan Dempsey fill the back three positions.
That leaves the combined talents of D'Arcy, Denis Hickie, Guy Easterby and Christian Warner on the bench.
With such a loaded backline, it's important that there's a steady hand at number ten to direct operations and that's where Holwell comes into the equation. 29-year-old Holwell has vast Super 12s experience and appears eager to make his mark in Ireland.
"I've played all my rugby so far in the Super 12s and I needed a new challenge," Holwell said. "Coming to Leinster brings that challenge and I'm looking forward to it. From what I've been told, they have a very exciting backline."
The Donnybrook crowd will be waiting with baited breath to see if the Kiwi is the answer to the province's recent nightmares at out-half.
