Ulster have been beaten 25-20 by Biarritz in the Heineken Cup despite a gallant late fightback.
The French champions were in firm control for most of the match and lead 15-3 at half-time with John Isaac and David Couzinet going over the line. Ulster initiated a spirited fightback in the second half with tries from Jan Cunningham and Andy Ward.
It was too little too late, however, as Biarritz held on to deny injury-ravaged Ulster what would have been a famous win in France.
Afterwards, Ulster assistant coach Mark McCall admitted his side would never get a better chance to gain their first victory over Biarritz on French soil. ' We should have won the game in the final 10 minutes,' he said, before adding that Biarritz's third try from Jean-Emmanuel Cassin should have been disallowed after the centre appeared to have his foot in touch as he went over the line.
' It definitely wasn't a try. It happened in front of me and we have seen the television replays. But what can you do?'
