Cork Con, UCD, Clontarf and Garryowen all recorded victories in the AIB Division One around the country today.
Young Munster 10-38 Cork Con
Young Munster stay bottom of the AIB Division One table following their 38-10 defeat by Cork Con at the Tom Clifford Park today. Young Munster have now lost five of their last six outings while Con have won five of their last six games. The Cork side led 16-10 by half-time. The Mahony brothers, Cian and Conor, shone for the winners with Cian getting the first of their four tries while Conor kicked four penalties and three conversions.
Buccaneers 18-21 UCD
Donal O'Riordan recorded an emphatic performance for UCD to help the students to a 21-18 victory over Buccaneers at Moher Road this afternoon. Although Buccaneers were very strong in the pack, they failed get the back-line working to make possession pay. Man of the match O'Riordan scored both of UCD's tries of the afternoon.
Clontarf 26-22 Galwegians
Clontarf claimed their fifth win of the AIB League after an exciting 26-22 win over Galwegians in Castle Avenue. The home-side led 17-6 at half-time courtesy of tries from Mike Walls and Warren O'Kelly. David O'Brien converted both of the tries as well as landing a penalty.
After the break however, out-half Bryan Shelbourne scored two more penalties to bring the visitors back into the game. Clontarf full back O'Brien kept some distance between the sides with a 51st minute penalty before Mervyn Murphy brought Galwegians right back into contention when he powered over for a try which Shelbourne converted to cut the deficit to one point. But the victory was secured when David O'Brien landed his sixth kick of the afternoon to seal the victory with 10 minutes remaining.
Garryowen 28-16 Blackrock
Garryowen put in a strong finish to beat Blackrock 28-16 at Dooradoyle this afternoon to retain second place in the Division One table. Garryowen led 17-6 at half-time after a try by Peter Malone and were also awarded a penalty try. Billy Tracey kicked a penalty and two conversions against two penalties for Rock by Conor Kilroy. In the second half, Kevin O'Riordan scored a third try for Garryowen and two penalties by Tracey while Michael Jackson scored a fine try for Rock and another penalty and conversion by Kilroy.
