Young Munster record sixth straight defeat

Dungannon kept their home-record intact with a 12-3 victory over Young Munster in the AIB Division One at Stevenson Park today. Young Munster, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win of the season with a sixth straight defeat leaving them anchored at the bottom of the Division One table.

Young Munster looked on course for their first win of the season in the first half when they led 3-0 at half–time. They took the lead in the eight-minute when out-half Eamon Buckley slotted over a 40-metre penalty and it was the Limerick side that carried all the attacking threats in the opening 40 minutes. Ian Humphreys missed a penalty for Dungannon just before half-time summing up a disastrous first half for the All-Ireland League champions.

Dungannon managed to inject some fluency into their game after the interval. Ian Humphreys landed two penalties to ease Dungannon into a lead they never lost. Humpreys added a drop goal to make it 9-3 in the 62nd minute while Young Munster’s Paul Lynch sat it out in the sin-bin. An injury-time drop goal from Humphreys sealed victory for Dungannon.
